Johan Bennet Argument Final Draft

In Persepolis, a nonfiction written by Marjane Satrapi, there is a girl named Marjane. She experiences deaths of loved ones. Johan Bennett, Chief Executive Officer of SMJUHSD, is banning this book for certain reasons. Despite this, Persepolis should not be banned.

One reason why Persepolis should not be banned is because of its pictures. The pictures in this book come very handy. For example, if you don't get a certain situation in the book, all you have to do is look at the pictures. This is important because the pictures provide a better understanding of the book, and it also gives us a visual image of the situation. In addition, these pictures give the reader a set in mood. the images have a dark and white coloring that can make the situation sad, happy, angry, etc. In page 256, the picture is almost all black giving the feeling of death. This is very useful because we can get into the situation making us to keep on reading, but these aren't the only reasons why it shouldn't be banned.

Another reason why Persepolis should not be banned is because it teaches some valuable life lessons. It teaches the readers the consequences for disobeying your parents or the rush of one's marriage. In the book Marjane and her boyfriend decide to get married with out any planning or anything. That soon led to the fall of their marriage followed by a divorce. Life lessons are important because we learn and can use what we learned and use them later on in life. Slow and steady, they stumble that run fast.

Johan Bennett Believes that this book is not a book 10th graders should read. "the main character Marjane Satrapi,' said Bennett,' is not a good role model for your young, impressionable youth." Bennett stated this because in the novel it talks about Marjane having multiple sexual partners and becoming her schools drug dealer clearly, Bennett doesn't want us to follow in her footsteps. It is true that Marjane is not a good role model, but we can learn from her mistakes.

The final reason why Persepolis shouldn't be banned is because we learn about different culture. Reading this book will give us information about cultures. Cultures is fun because you learn interesting things you didn't know. For example, you learn about different foods, activities, ideas, etc. Learning about culture is a good thing because it is a way of bonding. you learn about their music, art, how they live, and what they eat. It is like you are in their shoes. Furthermore, learning about other cultures gives us a chance to know what's going around the world, and not only the country you live in. This is important because with knowledge we go forward and better ourselves. If we don't know or learn about new things what is the whole point of living? "Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever," said Gandhi. Why hide from the world when you can embrace what the world has to offer? It is clear that we should not ban Persepolis.
Persepolis is a good book and should not be banned. It has pictures to give us better understanding, we learn about the world, and it teaches valuable life lessons. I strongly suggest reading Persepolis for yourself, and together we will say to Johan Bennett not to ban this amazing book!
