LITERATURE ANALYSIS #2

The book I read is titled Crackback. It is a realistic fiction written by John Coy. It is about teenage boy that is a junior in high school and plays for football team. His name is Miles. Miles is 5’10” and weighs 155 pounds. He isn't the biggest guy, but he loves to hit, to take guys to the ground and wipe them out. He is one of the starters on the team as well as a star, The position he plays is called defensive back. His father taught him how to play football since he was a little boy. His father also has very high expectations for Miles. Miles thinks that he can never be good enough for his dad. No matter how hard he tries his dad does not seem to be impressed or happy for him. Miles also has a big crush on girl. Miles is to shy to tell her he likes her. he hesitates to ask her to homecoming, at the end he doesn't go because he's a chicken. Zach is Miles best friend, and also starts on the field. Zach is all about being the best, going hard, pumping iron, football, but he also expects Miles to be the best as well. On the night before their first game, Zach gives Miles two pills of Rip Blast. He tells him it is just caffeine and that its just like taking a red bull, but really it's steroids, and that its for you can have a little more edge, as he says. "It is no big deal," said Zach," Lots of seniors take them, including Tyrone." Tyrone is their 300 lbs. all state tackle. Miles takes the pills, but he’s not comfortable about taking them, so he just puts it in his pocket and puts it in his drawer when he gets home. Miles finds out the consequences of his decisions. Him and Zach get in a huge argument and Zach starts to hang out with Tyrone and other seniors. On top of all that his coach moves him to back up. He is now a 2nd string corner. Miles’ dad is all over coach and Miles to do whatever it takes to get back into the starting lineup. Miles knows about a crackback play and tells coach. It gives him the opportunity to start again. The last game they run it and they end up winning by a point. At the end Miles and Lucia, his crush, are together. they watch a bald eagle fly above the water. he thinks it is the good time to pull his move, so he looks into her eyes and gives her a kiss. On pg. 107 he keeps remembering the play he messed up on that cost them the game. On pg. 110 there is an example of a hyperbole. it said that the play was burned into his brain. On pg. 201 there is another example of hyperbole. It said " Time slows down like the present will last forever." I thought this book was realistic because situations like steroids, love, football come into peoples lives. I made connections to this book because like him, I am 5'10" and weigh around 155 lbs. I love football just like he does.
The protagonist is a round character and remains flat. he is trustworthy when it comes to the field, he is angry and happy through out the story, and he still has feeling for his crush Lucia.
